Automated Resummation of Jet Observables in Qcd

چکیده
Jet observables, event shapes and jet rates, revealed themselves as one of the richest laboratories to explore QCD. Being infrared and collinear safe (IRC), they can be predicted with perturbative (PT) techniques, but their high sensitivity to low energy emissions allows us to investigate the fairly unknown nonperturbative regime. Most discriminatory studies make use of distributions. In integrated distributions Σ(v) one requires that the value of the observable V ({p̃}, k1, . . . , kn) – a function of all secondary final state momenta ki and of the Born momenta after recoil from the emissions {p̃} – be less than a fixed value v Σ(v) = ∫

Automated resummation of jet observables in QCD
Understanding the physics of event shapes and jet rates (collectively jet observables) requires a deep knowledge of QCD dynamics. Their distributions (defined as the fraction of events Σ(v) with the observable’s value V less than v) explore a wide range of physical scales, from the more inclusive region v = O(1), well described by fixed order perturbative (PT) calculations, to the extreme exclu...
متن کاملStatus of resummed predictions for QCD final state observables
We provide a brief review of the current status of resummed predictions for QCD final state observables such as event shapes and jet rates in a variety of different hard processes. Particular emphasis is given to more recent developments such as the study of non global observables, development of generalized resummation formulae and resummations for new types of event shape variables. The recent discovery and resummation of a class of single-logarithmic effects (nonglobal logs), has a significant impact on several QCD observables ranging from the classic StermanWeinberg jet definition to currently studied event shapes and rapidity gap observables. The discovery of the above effects overturns, for example, the common wisdom that hadronic energy flow in limited inter-jet regio...
متن کاملJet Observables in Hadronic Dijet Production
Hadronic collisions constitute one of the most exciting environments for high energy physicists, both theorists and experimentalists. Due to the large centreof-mass energies that can be reached, they are ideal for the search of new particles. Moreover, they are incredibly rich from the point of view of QCD. In particular, measures of final-state energy flow are important for various aspects. Be...

A special aspect of QCD in the Standard Model is that the regime where the theory is strongly coupled is within reach of current experiments, and indeed unavoidable. This gives rise to a number of non trivial phenomena, for instance one encounters non-convergent perturbative (PT) expansions and large non-perturbative (NP) corrections even at scales which are, at least formally, within the domai...
